"Southside Housing Association bought the site formally occupied by a garage. They saw the oportunity to provide a new development that could compliment the established community and cater for its wider needs. Southside have focused on the provision of 34 general needs family housing, including a small number designed for wheelchair users, while Loretto, part of the Wheatley Group are providing 21 amenity flats for older people, adopting a 'dementia friendly' design philosophy.
The Mosspark project is on a very tight site, so in order to offer every resident a 'defensible' outside space we opted to give each apartment a Windoor balcony. We have used them on other projects in the past and they have proved to significantly extend the number of months that residents cactually use their balconies in Glasgow's often harsh climate."

"When I left home and had an apartment for the first time that fact it had a balcony did not really matter to me; or so I thought. Only days after I moved in I had sat out there many times already.
I am out there to eat, read, listen to music or just relaxing. I have even slept out there! When I have friends or family visiting, the balcony is the best place to be.
I use my balcony almost all year. It does not need much sun to make it nice and warm. In summer I open the glazing wide so I can enjoy the sun like an open balcony.
In the dark and windy winter months, I have plenty of lanterns and lights above. It provides a cozy atmosphere inside the apartment. Best of all I do not need to clear them away, they can be always out there, I can relax as the balcony glazing protects against the wind, rain and snow."

"Danbolig Birkerod are responsible for nearly half of the condominium sales that are being made in the city. We are seeing great demand for apartments that have a balcony. There are a few agents offering balconies, but often the balcony is so small the buyers consider it almost useless.
Since Ejerforeningen Lyng Castle Garden and Lyngparken opened up the possiblity of the balcony, we find that they have become the most sought after apartments in the city. The buyers will pay a higher price for apartments with balconies and in addition they are much easier to sell.
7 out of 10 of our apartments buyers name the balcony as an important criterion in their housing search. The apartment's value after installing the balcony is increased by at least double the expense that constructing the balcony will cost."

"I have not had my balcony very long, but it is a nice extra large living room. It's gorgeous. It's great to get such a large balcony, as my aparment is only 58m². I have already spent alot of time sitting out here and enjoying nature. It gives my apartment plenty of light and air. On hot days I open the panes and enjoy the sun.
The idea for the new balconies arose because some residents in the housing group had very small balconies which needed to be renovated. On closer examination it was not economical to repair the old balconies due to major cracks. So one day, in a magazine, I saw an advert from Windoor about balconies that stated you could get free advice; I called Windoor - it was so easy.
We contacted Windoor and another balcony supplier and together with the Board, visited both companies to view their balcony systems. They were both good but due to price we chose Windoor."

"I see an increasing demand for quality properties with balconies that are suitable for the elderly in Frederiksberg.
Previously it has been like finding a needle in a haystack to find a luxurious apartment with balcony. It is not anymore. The municipality has opened up, so today there is a far greater opportunity to implement a balcony project. Therefore there are opportunities out there, with 7 out of 10 buyers demanding balconies in their housing search. The apartments' value after constructing the balcony is increased by at least twice the cost of installing one."

"We are all really excited about our new large glazed balconies, expecially our granddaughter of 4 years. She lives with her mother and father in the apartment next door and is visited daily. She loves to sit out on the balcony and play with her toys.
The balcony is our new extra room in the apartment. We always eat on our balcony when we have guests and we sit most of the time on the balcony too. We live near the North Sea so we experience some high winds. When this happens we close the balcony glazing and when the sun shines we open up the glazing to give us a traditional open balcony. This way we get maximum use from our balcony."

"This was a full refurbishment of a building which looked pretty dreadful, where the balconies had suffered with severe problems from pigeons, and were effectively unusable. Therefore as well as doing an external upgrade which included a new roof, new entrance block and exterior wall insulation to improve the structure's thermal performance, we specified the Windoor system to create a protected, additional space they can use all year round: which also offers additional weather protection to the building. The changes also gave a more modern look to the building with clean lines and the reaction has been very good from both the client and their tenants. Its has been a dramatic transformation."

"The concept of sunspaces is something we have got used to employing over a series of past projects. Passive solar was a key factor in developing the design for East Whins Ecovillage; we undertook extensive sun path analysis of the site, orientating the buildings so we could also make use of photo-voltaic solar panels. There is already a wealth of knowledge within the Findhorn Community about sustainable building, and they have their own set of guidelines. It is very much a hybrid scheme. The properties have been occupied for some time and the people there seem to be very satisfied with the level of ambition we had for the project."

"The Belsize Road development was built on a tight site, immediately adjacent to the main line into Euston station. Many of the flats had balconies overlooking the line, and we wished to provide a screen that would shelter the space from the noise of the trains and prevent objects from falling onto the line below, while providing suitable levels of ventilation and daylight. Windoor designed a lockable screen that satisfied both Railtrack and our Client, Nottinghill Housing Trust."

"Queens Gate is the first residential phase of Clydebank Re-built's plans for a sustainable urban quarter on the site of the former John Brown Shipyards in Clydebank. The restricted nature of the site afforded little opportunity for communal amenity and so the decision was taken at an early stage to maximise the potential of private external space. Each flat was given a large balcony terrace which incorporated a Windoor sliding and folding glazed screen, allowing the tenant to transform this balcony into a year round winter garden and sunspace."
